Contractor Registration
Rhode Island General Laws require anyone doing residential or commercial construction work—like building, remodeling, or repairs—needs to be registered with the Rhode Island Contractors’ Registration and Licensing Board (RICRLB).
Who Needs to Register?
- Individuals or businesses working in residential or commercial construction.
- ALL subcontractors.
- Those performing remodeling, alterations, or repairs such as handyman work.
- Contractors and subcontractors performing, offers to perform, bids on construction work for a structure or coordinates such work.
Who Does Not Need to Register?
- Employees of a registered contractor
- Homeowners who reside in their residence

- Ceramic tilers
- Drywall installers
- Fence installers
- Flooring installers
- Foundation installers, including concrete installers and form installers
- Hardscape installers
- Insulation installers
- Masons, including chimney installers, fireplace installers, and general masonry erectors
- Painters
- Paving installers
- Plasterers
- Power washers
- Roofers
- Sealcoaters
- Siding installers
- Swimming pool installers, both above ground and in ground
