Contractor Registration GENERAL GUIDANCE FOR CONTRACTORS WORKING IN RHODE ISLAND Rhode Island law requires that any person or entity in the business of residential and/or commercial construction, including alterations, remodeling, or repairs be registered with the Contractors' Registration and Licensing Board. Any person or entity who undertakes, offers to undertake, or submits a bid to do work as a contractor on a structure, or arranges to have work done on a structure. Employees of a registered contractor are not required to register. Subcontractors are required to be registered. Examples of the most common type of work requiring a registration: Carpenters, including finish carpenters and framers Ceramic tilers Fence installers Flooring installers Foundation installers, including concrete installers and form installers Drywall installers Insulation installers Masons, including chimney installers, fireplace installers, and general masonry erectors Painters Paving installers Power Washers Plasterers Hardscape Installers Roofers Siding installers Swimming pool installers, both above ground and in ground This list is not all-inclusive.
